A READER FOR FLORIDA!
Hey ya'll...I think that these books are the most incredible books i have ever read. I have read all 12 of the Christy Miller Series and 1 and 2 of the College Series! I instantly Fell in Love with Todd, and I pray that the guy I marry will be just like him. He has the qualities every guy should have! I wish that my life was just like Christy's and I can't wait to read the 3rd book of the College Series! These Books have helped me in my life more ways than I can count! I love them and I can't wait to read them over! The things todd says to Christy are so sweet and caring, it makes you want to cry. I commend Robin Jones Gunn, she is an amazing writer. I like books that I can sit down in my room, and just get lost in a book. I couldn't put them down. I havne't been able to do that with a book in a long time! I encourage everyone to read these books, every one of them, and open their hearts to learn from them. God spoke to me in so many ways while i was reading the college books the most. I learned so much and my relationship with god was grown immensly. I look up to christy...and I try to be more like her each day!

These are the best books!
Hello everyone. Robin Jones Gunn's books on Christy Miller are absolutely the best books I have ever read. When you read them, it's as if you've crawled inside the book and you're there with her everywhere she goes! Todd is such a great character, and he's the exact type I've dreamt of marrying ever since I got book 1. I cry when she cries. I laugh, and trust me, there's plenty to laugh at. I have a smile on my face during every book, and I definitely recommend every single on of them. These books are sweet and romantic, but realistic and give you a Biblical perspective on the way life should be. I have actually grown closer to God through these books. Especially the college series. Thanks, Robin! You're the best!

Robin has made another great book!
Hi Christy fans and others! This book is a great because it goes more into Christy's thoughts and feelings about her friends, Todd, her family, and what goes on in her life with her faith. I love how Christy and Todd's relationship grows and I love it when Todd kisses her three times- one for the past, one for the present, and a long kiss for the future, when Christy travels to Europe. This books takes you through the series of Christy Miller and the Sierra Jenson series too. Christy's normal teenage life is expressed in this dairy of hers and reveals things the book doesn't. I find this book really great and I hope you will enjoy it too!God bless!

Junie B Jones Is a Graduation Girl
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 2001)
Authors: Barbara Park and Denise Brunkus

What a hoot!
Junie B. Jones is a mischievous little girl who is learning the lessons of life. Our family has enjoyed each book in this series. We can't wait to see what she's up to next. The Junie B. Jones series is a great first chapter book series for beginning readers. My children have sometimes balked at reading time, but when it's a Junie B. Jones book, they read it from cover to cover without stopping. In this book, Junie B. is finally graduating from kindergarten. The lessons learned in this book are obedience...the consequence of not obeying, and also friendship and loyalty. The children are given white graduation caps and gowns and told not to play in them. Junie B.'s mother even puts hers on top of the refrigerator so Junie B. cannot play with them. Of course, a mischievous little girl such as Junie B. cannot help herself and devises a way to get the gown down. The gown becomes soiled and Junie B. must find a way to cover it up. I thought it was a great book, though I think she kind of got of the hook this time. I took the book to school and read it to the second graders there. They loved it too. They think Junie B. Jones is a hoot!

One of the Funniest Books in the World!
This book was about how Junie B. (Don't forget the B!) was getting ready for graduation from Kindergarten. ...And she got popular because she accidentally got purple drops on her cap and gown, so everyone else drew colored polka dots on their gowns.

I liked this because Junie B. is very funny. I liked this book as much as "Junie B and the Stinky Smelly Bus" and I think other kids would like to read it too.

Mom's Note: "This was the first Junie B. book that I have read with my daughter (she read another one in school) and it was absolutely adorable. Ms. Park captures the essence of a kindergartener by telling the story in the first-person, from little Junie B's perspective and she does a wonderful job. It really sounds like a Kindergartener is telling the story, which makes it all the more enjoyable. I'm looking forward to reading more of these with my daughter!"

A Funny Story, Very Realistic!
When a mishap (that only Junie B. would be capable of) threatens to ruin the hilarious character's kindergarten graduation, Junie B. knows just how to handle it! If only she knew she could be making it even worse...
Junie B. just can't resist wearing her new white graduation grown for her stuffed animals! Then she gets thirsty and pours herself and her toys some grape juice. When her stuffed animals don't exactly swallow it, things go wrong... And her graduation gown could be ruined! Junie B. knows how to fix it, though!
Enjoy this hilarious story!

Out of Breath!
this book makes me cry every time the way Christy and Todd are so close and then.........they both have to make a desion. it hard to believe that nobody could cry if they read this book, because of the love and care foreach other. i DEFFINATLY recomend this book!

Most romantic book EVER!
Christy and Todd have been friends--good friends-- for years, but no they have been dating for a few months. Todd and Christy love each other, but they love God more than anything. When they go to Disneyland, Todd tells that he wouldn't want to live without her and "You are the most precious gift God has ever given to me, Kilikina." It's the most romantic thing ever! Then Todd finds out he's been accepted to go a on a missions trip. He tells Christy he's decided not to go... maybe he could have a year ago or a few months ago, but not then. They were too close. Christy can't believe it. Todd's wanted to be a missionary for forever and she knows deep inside that he should go. Finally one night on the beach she tells Todd that he has to go. They both just hold each other and cry like crazy... it made me cry too! Todd takes her "Forever" bracelet and tells Christy "You know that if I go, we might never see each other again." but then he promises "If we ever meet again in this world, I'll put this bracelet back on your wrist, and that time, my Kilikina, it will stay on forever." It's the most romantic book ever, but will also help you in your relationship with God. A great book for and teen girl.

this book and series is probably the best I have ever read.
The Christy Miller series goes to the heart of a lot of girls lives. It is what my friends and I wish was us. This is my favorite series and I cry everytime I read Sweet Dreams. I really wish she would have written more of this series

aHORA, CADA VEZ QUE ME SIENTO AL BORDE DEL GRUÑIDO, HAGO MIS TERAPIAS DE LIMÓN Y DE NARANJA...Y yupi!!!!!!

Chuck Amuck: The Life and Times of an Animated Cartoonist
Published in Hardcover by Farrar Straus & Giroux (1994)
Author: Chuck Jones
Average review score:

Oh, to have lived back then!
To read "Chuck Amuck: The Life and Times of an Animated Cartoonist" is to be transported back to the days when Termite Terrace turned out the most popular cartoons the world will ever know. Not only does Chuck (how can we call someone we know so well "Mr. Jones" or just "Jones"?) explain the childhood, adolescence and career life that brought him to where he is, he also takes the reader into that wonderful nether-world in a neglected corner of the Warner Bros. Studios lot where Leon Schlessinger ruled a bunch of underpaid, barely appreciated cartoonists. And they actually LOVED what they were doing! The people who gave the world Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies come to life so vividly, one can almost smell the ink and paint.

Profusely illustrated with doodles, sketches, caricatures and photographs, "Chuck Amuck" is a literary and visual delight. And, as an added bonus, there's even an actual Wile E. Coyote cartoon that you can enjoy without a VCR or a movie projector!

The book's only low point is that the foreword was written by Steven Spielberg, whose "Tiny Toons" and "Animaniacs" are little more than flagrant rip-offs of Chuck's (and Tex Avery's and Bob Clampett's) best material.

A Fantastic Book about Philosophy, Life and, uh, Cartoons
Please do yourself a favor and read this wonderful book. Chuck Jones is an American treasure and a fantastic artist. The Warner Brothers Cartoons were directed to audiences of all ages, they do not talk down to children, nor do they pretentiously preach to adults. Unfortunately, we only seem to recognize as "great" those artists who do these things. If you believe an artist has to be "serious" to be a genius, I hope this book will change your mind! Check out his new book, "Chuck Reducks" too

As Wile E. Coyote would say "Genius, pure genius"
The world lost an animation genius recently with the death of Chuck Jones. Luckily, there is a book like this that celebrates the animation genius he was. Arguably, Jones was the father of some of the best Warner Brothers cartoons ever made, including "Duck Amuck," "Duck Dogers in the 24th and 1/2 Century," and my personal favorite "What's Opera Doc?" He also is responsible for giving us such great pieces of pop culture as the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Part autobiography, part instruction, part tribute, this book shows us the man behind the screen, or should I say behind the pencil? We often wonder where a genius comes from - Chuck seems to say from anywhere. His mark on the development of the cartoon is undeniable, and monumental. But just as you cannot appreciate art fully until you know about the painter, so it is with Chuck's cartoons. I have a greater appreciation for the work that goes into developing these 8 minute masterpieces. Yes, it's true that Jones gave us some of the clunkers in the 60's as the Warner Brothers studio (and the MGM studio) animation division gasped what seemed to be its last breath. But it's all the more amazing that Chuck could produce such works given what little he had to work with. The world would be poorer were it not for the gives Chuck has given us, including Wile E. Coyote (super genius!),and the Road Runner, Pepe Le Pew, Marvin the Martian and many others. His style was distinctive, his contributions monumental and behind it all, he was a fascinating and talented man. This book stands as a tribute to this genius now that he's no longer with us.

Labyrinth: A Novel

Jereth, Sarah and Toby....and odd group
This is a wonderful tale of love, infatuation, and family laced with adventure, friendship, hardship, and triumph. I first read this book in Junior High and later saw the movie. The book in my opinion was much better than the movie, but I found both exceptional.

Sarah made a wish she should have never made, and found out the had way that some wishes do come true. Her baby brother Toby is now missing and she is struggling to find him. She embarkes of a journey where she meets and makes friends who accompany her on her journeys. Just when she thinks she might just win the game, Jereth, King of the Goblins and Toby's captor, throws another wrench into the works.

Through dangers untold...
There is no way I can write a review good enought for this novel. It is, hands WAY down, the best fantasy ever written. It is the biggest shame that it should be out of print, and that the only place to find it anymore is on the internet. There is no way that you can not fall in love with every single character, especially Jareth, the seductive, and evil, yet good Goblin King. It is the essence of magic, and everyone should read it. It is a definite yes for those who saw the movie and loved it, because it holds true to the script. I'm begging the publishers, on my hands and knees, no, lower, to please please please put this book back into print. No one should miss it!

No one's too old for Labyrinth
Since I was only nine, I adored the movie. I read the book a little while later, and I love that even more. Things aren't identical to the movie, exactly, making it a whole new experience. I wish I had a copy of my own, but they're hard to find. So, if you find it, you won't regret purchasing. It's wonderful for all ages, and each time you read, you'll find something you missed the time before.

This book is totally awsome
I loved this book. It is not easy to tell how it ends. You think you know what is going to happen to Alissa, the main character, but you don't. Talk about an exciting last few chapters. I love all of Robin's work. Unlike many other books this is not only an exciting and wonderful story but this also offers wonderful insight. All I can say is don't read it in one night or read it only once. Like many of Robin's book this book gets better every time you read it. Definetly Buy it!!!

Sunsets really shows love doesn't need to be rushed into.
Sunsets was the second book I've read by Robin Jones Gunn. This book was almost as good as Clouds, but not quite. The factor I liked most was that Alissa and Brad started out as friends. Once again, great job, keep up the good work Ms Gunn!!!

An Awesome Book!
I really enjoyed this book. I love the way that all the characters in the books connect. not only do they just connect in the Glenbrooke Series, but some of the characters in this series connect with characters in the Christy Miller Series. This book is about Alissa. In the Christy Miller Series, Christy was the one who prayed with Alissa when she became a Christian. She also knew Todd, Doug and Tracey. Throughout this book Christy's name is mentioned. Brad, the guy in the story, is the brother of Lauren Phillips in book 3. This was a really good book. Another thing i like about these books is that they are Christian. This book was really good.

Blood Sport : A Journey Up the Hassayampa
Published in Paperback by The Lyons Press (May, 1997)
Author: Robert F. Jones
Average review score:

Thick with metaphor
I've loved this book since the first time I read a battered, well-used copy back in the mid-eighties. This is one of those books, thick with metaphor and allegory, that has a strange wisdom to it. After you've finished it, you'll doubtless spend days wondering what the hell it was actually about. It is a very profound novel, but difficult to define why and how it is profound. As a great adventure novel, it holds it's own, but "Blood Sport" is so much more.

How hard it is to be a man!
I have been obsessed with this book since the 80's, when I found a used version under "sci fi". Then, in 1997, I found another copy in dark corner of a used bookstore in a tiny Vermont town. To own this book twice is to be doubly lucky. I am uncommonly happy that the book has been released again. Bloodsport describes a unique rite of passage for a young boy and his father as they travel up a mythical river, the Hassayampa. It's a very interesting read, as difficult as you wish to make it. The book also examines the peculiar value of pain, suffering, hardship to the male spirit.

Quintessential rite of passage tale for fathers and sons.
Casting for Marlins. Living with Ratnose. A three part morality play with characters that have lived amongst us forever. The Greeks and the Norse weren't the only people who had it right in their telling of tales and trials of those of us who only wanted to catch one more fish, shoot one more beast; or ride one more motorcycle... I have personally given more than 50 copies of this book to friends and others in need. It deserves to be read! ----- David Stalle

Fred Jones Tools for Teaching

This Book Saved my Teaching Career
I had been teaching 7th and 8th grade science for two years at an inner city school and was doing OK. I had my classes somewhat under control, but I was getting worn out trying to keep them under control. I read the intro to this book and couldn't wait to finish it and implement his methods. He clearly explains a whole system to deal with EVERYTHING that occurs in a classroom. He gives specific techniques, not just handy hints. I started using the techniques from this book in the middle of the school year and the change in my classroom, and my stress level has been absolutely incredible. I now have nearly perfect class control and the cooperation of my students at all times. The principle now sends new teachers to my room to observe both discipline and instruction. I reread the whole book a few months after the first read, and my classroom management just keeps getting better and better as well as easier and much less stressful. I wish they had given me a two semester course with this book in college! It has made teaching fun and relaxing for me. I'm sure I would have quit teaching by now if not for Fred Jones' book.

Responding to "Waiting For the Punchline"
The crisis in America's classrooms is no joke, no punchline intended. I want to respond to "A reader from the United States' who obviously could not have read ( nor understood) the entire book before writing the review. I do not want teachers or other educators to think that he is correct in his descriptions. The "Tools For Teaching" program is a complete teacher training program
that is all about providing examples and models, and coaching for all teachers at any level or experience. It is a practical, incredibly positive, step by step training in how establish a positive classroom, how to stay calm in the face of thirty students and even the worst back talk, how to design and deliver lessons in any content area, based on how the brain learns and how to motivate and create responsible people out of all students, even the most outcast. This reviewer must have read with his brain closed. Achievement rates increase and teachers don't burn out. "Tools For Teaching" is the solution to problems in our schools, a must -read for everyone who cares about student achievement and success in life. And, there truly are many punchlines for Dr. Jones writes with great humor that helps us laugh at ourselves while we learn. I recommend it to every educator in the nation as well as to all parents.

Fred Jones Tools For Teaching
Fred Jones Tools For Teaching is a practical teaching guide for all prospective and practicing teachers. It is the only methods text that I have used in 31 years of teacher training that is worthwhile for all teachers in today's classroom climate. The text provides classroom management and instruction technology that works in a positive way. Teachers learn how to set limits, teach responsibility and motivate students in a cooperative environment. Teaching and learning improve with explicit classroom instruction methods that help structure lesson planning, enhance partner learning, and actually encourage students to improve learning in order to engage in a preferred learning activity as a reward. Harry Wong's text, The First Days of School, inspires and provides an excellent framework for improved classroom activities. Fred Jones Tools for Teaching takes the next step to provide teachers at any level with proven techniques to improve postive classroom Discipline - Instruction - Motivation.

Out of Time : A Casey Jones Mystery
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Avon (August, 1998)
Author: Katy Munger
Average review score:

Great Read!
This is the first of the Casey Jones book I have read. Casey is a rather brash, in-the-face kind of person whom I would love to have for a friend. She sets her mind on something and goes after it, no matter what the consequences. I found the story well-written and especially liked the ending where Munger brings you up-to-date on all of the main characters. I don't like to read series out of order and wish I had read "Legwork" first; it will definitely be second.

Trouble ahead, trouble behind
Fans of female PIs, rejoice! Katy Munger's Casey Jones is equal to the very best in the genre: Grafton, Barnes, Paretsky. Out Of Time, the second in the series, is a breezy, fast-paced read with a hard centre. Intriguingly Munger pretty much gives away the identity of the killer about halfway through the book, making the rest of the novel a nail-bitingly suspensful duel between Jones and her prey. Also unusually, she throws in a dozen pages at the end detailing exactly what happened to everyone after the killer's nabbed. Casey Jones herself is the most endearing investigator since Carlotta Carlyle debuted. There's plenty of wit and wisecracks, but Munger always keeps it under control; the plot never descends into farce the way it does in, say, Janet Evanovich's books. And my God, can this woman WRITE! A few words, half a sentence, and she's conjured up a minor character, and made them more memorable than anything Patricia Cornwell's done in the last decade. Buy it, and you'll be, like me, lining up to buy the rest of the Casey Jones series.

I'm Hooked!
Katy Munger was recommended to me because I love Janet Evanovich's books. Not as over-the-top as Evanovich, this book had its share of wit but combined it with a tight mystery plot and a horde of fascinating secondary characters. A writing workshop lecturer once told me: every character in your book thinks they're the star of it. Well, every character in this book COULD be the star of their own story because they're so wonderfully crafted and intriguing.

Even if the ending stretched out overlong, I didn't mind because it gave us the conclusions for each character's story, and by that time I'd come to care about what happened to them.

Casey Jones is a fascinating character, a little too much on the yang side at the beginning but who softens up during the course, a woman who makes mistakes but learns from them; smart and sexy, confident and not twenty-one. We care what happens to her. We care about the case she's working on and the people she's working for.

And it's all set right around my house! I was THRILLED to see landmarks of North Carolina's Research Triangle throughout the book, adding layers of our area's peculiar flavor to an already eccentric viewpoint.

So I'm here on Amazon to snarf up some more Casey Jones books. You go, Katy Munger! One question to you and Evanovich: how can your heroines eat so much and not gain weight???
